How Do I Import a Glossary into Moodle
Before importing entries into Moodle, please review the Glossary Standards.
Step 1: Download the Template Excel File
- Download the template Excel file to add your glossary entries.
- You don’t need to download the template each time, but be aware that due to Moodle upgrades, the template may change. If this happens, delete your local copy of the file and download the updated version from the provided link.
Step 2: Open the index.html File
- Open the index.html file.
- Follow the instructions on the webpage to convert your Excel file into XML format.

Step 3: Import XML File into Moodle
- Open your Moodle course and navigate to the Glossary activity (create a new one if needed).
- Click on Import Entries.

- Upload or drag and drop the XML file (it should be in your Downloads folder unless you changed your settings).


Step 4: Review the Import Results
- After submission, Moodle will show the number of successfully imported entries.
- Some entries may not be imported if they are duplicates.
- If 0 entries are imported and it's not due to duplication, this may indicate an error. Report the issue at Support Service and attach your Excel file. Thank you!
